My comment to you is your car, as is mine, is well past the warranty period.ġ) went to a Ford dealer and asked for a copy of the TSB, because I wanted to change the fluid and filter and since the sticker was on there I wanted to know if I'd let any gremlins out if I dropped the pan. Point is that a while after your car was delivered new, Ford found a problem (it is described somewhat in the TSB) and replaced the transmission, and stickered it so that they would get feedback at the factory about future failures. Your transmission (as was mine) was one of those in the exchange program. The other issue I think was outlined in a Ford service bulletin - if you go to a dealer and the service counterperson knows hoe to dig into the old TSBs you should be able to find it. So if you look under your front bumper you should find a **huge** transmission cooler. One, the tranny itself is not that big, and could get kinda hot in normal use. Long answer: My understanding is that there were a couple issues IIRC. Short answer: On your stickered transmission Ford stipulated no service due to a replacement campaign they had on the AX4N transmissions in the Lincolns they wanted to know if the replacement transmissions needed serviced. The car has 200,000 miles on it, but it drives beautifully minus this issue. I don't think this is a major transmission problem. Also, it doesn't happen during the first downshift, but somewhere about 5 or 10 minutes on down the road, even after stoplights, and at low speeds of course.

Besides that problem, the car drives and shifts just fine, and this problem does not seem to happen when the engine is warm, only when it is cold. Now, the only way to fix the problem is to pull the car over and stop for a second.Īfter that, it drives just fine, and the issue only happens once on a drive. When this first started happening, I tried putting the car in neutral and/or D2 when this happened and then back into overdrive, and it would go back into gear (sometimes with a jerk) and shift and accelerate normally. I'm not sure if this happens when it is trying to downshift or when it is just accelerating within the gear that it's in.

Sometimes but not every time, in 1st and/or 2nd gear, the engine revs as if it is in neutral and the car will not downshift. I'm not very good at descriptions, but bear with me. When I'm starting out on a drive, the transmission has an issue.
